About Elena
I picked up a camera at sixteen and never quite put it down. What started as a way to make sense of the world became a way to help other people see theirs more clearly. I studied documentary photography at Edinburgh College of Art, then spent two years assisting before going out on my own in 2018.
I'm drawn to the in-between moments. The breath before the first look. The grandmother quietly watching from the back row. The way light falls across a table at the end of a long, good evening. These are the photographs that matter to me.
My approach is simple: be present, be patient, and let the story unfold. I don't pose much. I don't direct much. I pay close attention to light and I trust that the real moments are always more beautiful than anything I could manufacture.
When I'm not behind a camera, I'm probably walking Arthur's Seat with my dog, browsing Topping & Company for books I don't need, or drinking too much coffee at Cairngorm. I live in Stockbridge with my partner David and our very photogenic border terrier, Scout.
My Approach
Documentary first
I believe the best photographs are found, not made. My approach is observational and unobtrusive. I document your day as it unfolds, capturing genuine emotion and authentic moments.
Light is everything
I'm obsessive about natural light. I study how it moves through a space, how it changes through the day, how it falls on skin and fabric. Light shapes mood, and mood shapes memory.
Less is more
I'd rather deliver 400 exceptional images than 1,000 average ones. Every photograph in your gallery is intentional, considered, and tells a part of your story.
